Working with individual children, teens & adults.

Hello, and thank you for visiting my website.

My name is Ruth Blaikie. I am a Washington State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LF-60134867), with a Master's level education in Art Therapy. I have also received Level 1 & Level 2 EMDR training through the EMDR Institute.

For the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of providing a safe, compassionate, and healing environment for my clients in the Seattle and Edmonds communities.

I help clients;

*foster self-compassion, healing, insight, and resiliency from emotional injuries.

*develop insight into the meaning behind anxiety and depression; honor the message, and with mindfulness, proceed with the healing process which opens the door for the necessary shifts to reduce those symptoms.

*address and resolve issues stemming from trauma.

*identify outdated, destructive coping strategies, and work towards developing healthy strategies for living a higher quality of life.

*develop social, behavioral, emotional and relational competencies.

*address and recover from compassion fatigue (caregiver burn-out).

*discover their position and purpose in life, explore their birth rights, talents & gifts.

*develop a sense of connectedness with others.

I am dedicated to helping clients reduce symptoms, feel better, and improve their quality of life.

Clients have the opportunity to:

"Express, Explore, Heal, Hope and Transcend"

"Express": In the safety of the therapeutic environment, clients have the opportunity to express themselves and their experiences. Using art therapy, play therapy and talk therapy, clients externalizing their internal world, sometimes for the very first time. This is a very cathartic process.

"Explore": Clients now have the opportunity to explore what has been expressed. Coming face-to-face with new aspects of themselves, clients take the time to contemplate it, feel it, and make sense of it. By putting it in it's place and time, clients can unburden themselves from the weight of their experience.

"Heal": Healing can occur after acknowledging the wounds, burdens and pain. Now those wounds can be directly attended to and treated specifically as they deserve. First aid for the soul. Learning self-compassion and self-worth in this process is extremely healing.

"Hope": Hope arises as healing takes place. There is room for new perspectives as burdens are removed and healed. There is energy for trying on new coping strategies and making new choices. Negative and self-defeating cycles can be replaced with healthy and deliberate thoughts, behaviors and patterns.

"Transcend": Having made the journey thus far, clients experience a new sense of freedom. No longer stuck in the rigid and painful grip of the past, they are experiencing a life which is more self-directed and rewarding. They are resilient and have transcended their past, allowing them to live a higher quality of life.

Using Expressive Art & Projective Play Therapy as well as Talk Therapy, I assist clients through their personal journey towards wellbeing.
